Vietnam: Light-duty: Emissions

Overview

As of January 1, 2022, 4-wheeled light-duty vehicles in Vietnam are regulated under the Euro 5 standard. The emissions limits are outlined below.

Standard type
Conventional pollutant emission limits

Regulating Body

Ministry of Transport

Applicability

Newly manufactured, assembled and imported vehicles (having at least 4 wheels) with maximum total mass not exceeding 2,610 kg.

History

Vietnam passed its most recent set of light-duty vehicle emissions regulations in 2011. The first round of standards for light-duty vehicles went into effect in January of 2017, requiring compliance with the nation’s Level 4 emissions standards which are harmonized with Euro IV. As of January of 2022, the nation’s Level 5 standards for light-duty vehicles, which correspond to Euro V levels, took effect.

Technical Standards

Light-duty vehicles in Vietnam are currently regulated under the Euro 5 standard. Implementation of Euro 5 emissions standards for cars is the responsibility of the director of the Vietnam Registry and the heads of the Agencies of Communications and Transport.
