Emissions standards in Chile allow manufacturers to adhere to either European or US standards. For example, since 2012, Euro 5/US Tier 2 are enforced for light- and medium-duty diesel vehicles, while Euro 4 or US Tier 2 are required for gasoline vehicles. When it comes to fuel quality and emissions standards for generators, standards focus on ameliorating pollution in the Santiago Metropolitan Region and move outward from there, with standards becoming slightly less strict further away from that region.
